Public Art Project Video

This video describes the ideas behind the first public art project commissioned by The Sandwich Glass Town Cultural District Steering Committee.  Artist Michael Magyar of the Sandwich Giants fame and The Glass Studio on Cape Cod will create a seven foot obelisque with a metal angle iron internal frame with ancient Sandwich glass attached to the plate glass.  There will be a solar component and the hope is the sun will illuminate the glass during the day and then the solar lights will at night. Our wholehearted thanks go out to these generous donors:

  • The Massachusetts Cultural Council
  • The Fund for Sandwich
  • The Sandwich Cultural Council
  • The Visitors Service Board

The Visitors Service Board
“This sculpture will represent the history of the glass industry in Sandwich and the contemporary studio glass movement we enjoy presently. The colorful shards that will be used for this piece are from local artists’ finds and from glass excavated from the original glass factory site. This will be a public art exhibit, of the people and for the people.”
